One of the best parts of my job is spending time with Atascadero business owners. Whether it is over coffee, during a ribbon cutting, or while visiting a local shop, I hear both optimism and concern.
Our businesses believe in Atascadero. Yet rising costs, workforce shortages, limited housing, childcare needs, insurance challenges, and regulatory uncertainty make it increasingly difficult to plan, hire, and grow.
Business owners are not asking for guarantees or special treatment. They understand that entrepreneurship involves risk. They are asking for a fair opportunity to succeed and confidence that Atascadero will remain a community where their investment is welcomed.
The Atascadero Chamber is working to address these challenges in practical ways.
Through our advocacy efforts and Developer Roundtables, we bring businesses, builders, and public agencies together to improve communication and identify barriers to responsible development. Our workforce and family friendly workplace initiatives help employers recruit and retain talented people. Bridgeworks Coworking offers professional, flexible workspace for entrepreneurs and growing companies.
We also create opportunities for businesses to connect with customers through Shop Local campaigns, community events, ribbon cuttings, referrals, tourism promotion, and programs that strengthen visibility. Just as importantly, we regularly communicate with the City and other decision makers about how fees, regulations, infrastructure, and policies affect local employers.
Atascadero has much working in its favor. We have a downtown that is transforming into a popular destination, a family-focused identity, available commercial opportunities, strong community pride, and business owners who continue investing in our future.
Still, success is not automatic.
Every new employee, signed lease, expanded storefront, and purchased piece of equipment represents someone betting on Atascadero. The Chamber’s role is to help make that bet worthwhile by connecting businesses with resources, advocating for a healthy business climate, and building a community where employers and employees can thrive.
People continue to believe in Atascadero.
Let’s work together to ensure it remains a smart bet.
